*Sit down in a quiet place and in a comfortable chair. Make sure you’re not distracted by anything like noises, lights, hunger, or other discomfort.

*Close your mouth and breathe deeply through your nose, relaxing as you do so. You may find it easier to control your breathing if you lightly press your tongue to the roof of your mouth. This will also help make it easier to avoid yawning during this phase of the exercise.

*You should allow yourself to sink deeper and deeper into your relaxation. As you go into a light trance, you need to have a strong conviction or belief that you really are able to see people or places that you’ve never encountered physically.

One way to do this is to ‘stand’ in front of and facing away from your relaxed, chair-sitting self in your mind’s eye. Now, look back at your relaxed self from the perspective of your standing self, as though you’re looking at a mirror image. What do you see? It can be a little difficult to do this at first, but patience will get results. When you can see yourself as others would see you from this perspective, it will be wonderfully surprising.

*If you’re able to control the remote viewing of you sitting in position, try ranging your mind a little further a-field and view something that you know well. A family member’s house is perfect for this. Try to notice any items that might look out of place, such as dishes on the sink or clothing hanging on the line. Then when you’re done with your exercise, call that person and verify what you saw. This verification is important as it allows you to reinforce your own capacity to your own mind.

As you become more practiced, you can also try another type of remote viewing exercise. Instead of viewing places or people you want to see, try seeing if you can ‘view’ a friend who is doing a particular motion. Have a friend or family member sit in another room so that you can’t see him or her, and then have them repeat a simple movement like hand waving or twirling hair. With your remote viewing skills, see if you can see what your friend or family member is doing and then compare notes to see how accurate you are.

Once you’ve practiced remote viewing techniques for a while, you may find that it’s quite easy to get into a relaxed state, much easier than previously. Getting into a relaxed state is very similar to the trancelike states people assume when they undergo hypnosis.
